Modifications Needed for the AR9 Kit

For many years the AR9 Modular Aperture Sight has been a favorite among hunters and firearms men. Magazines, papers and internet sites still give high recommendations for this product and it is used by thousands of people worldwide. Recently there have been some modifications made to the Magazines to make them even more user friendly.

Currently the Magazines are called Tokyo Marui M4 Mews and they are printed on translucent sheets of high quality paper. Magazines can be printed on two types of paper the black and the green ones. You can get both types in the AR9 Kit. You will also need a small pen that you can use to mark the Magazines so that you know which is which when switching the Magazines in and out of the AR9 Kit.

The modifications needed to the Magazines require some basic tools. First you will need a screwdriver with a head that fits the upper receiver of the A-Bolt as they are manufactured to be a single unit. The modification needed to the Magazines is to remove the front cover and remove the bolt stop, also known as a pin. Remove both pieces of plastic and take note of the screw holes on the side of the upper receiver and enlarge these holes to fit the screws that will go into the upper receiver. These holes are usually printed on the plastic. Once you have drilled the holes just use some oil on the threads of the bolt and then reassemble the upper receiver.

The next modification required is to modify the front sight of the A-Bolt to use the Tokyo Marui M4 Mews instead of the original Magazines that come with the A-Bolt. The Tokyo Marui M4 Mews has a larger front sight print and this is what you will need to modify. The next step is to drill the same holes that were made in the side of the upper receiver as the bolt stop, and then reassemble the upper assembly. You will probably need to replace a small amount of the screws as well.

The third modification needed is to change the bolt lock function. You can change the bolt lock function to either engage or disengage the upper receiver. The Tokyo Marui Mews has a bolt lock function, where as the original Magazines have a fixed bolt that cannot be locked. The instructions that come with the kit should show how to change the bolt lock function. Installation is quite easy, as the kits usually come with the necessary hardware that you need. Some of the optional parts you may want to purchase include: the Tokyo Marui Logo, Magazine Catch, raised magazine lip, raised magazine end cap, magazine spring, and the new Magazines themselves.

By purchasing the Tokyo Marui Mews A-Bolt, the scope of this modification can be expanded greatly. In addition to the pistol's functionality, these rifles also make great collectors pieces. In fact, when used in conjunction with the original is, these models can even shoot pistol-style rapid-fire rounds. For this reason, many military and law enforcement agencies have taken to having these magazines, after converting their regular as to be fully automatic and reusable.
